The Preamble Becons| Scene One: Act One

[The camera opens to some slight shifting as it traces the path of the ethereal being it has been pointed at, there is a slight bit of delay and the furious sound of a pen on paper in the very near background. Anima, a Misdreavous, is eagerly flitting about somewhere in Goldenrod while a certain mad scientist is taking notes.]

...not entirely unlike their p-p-power, however so very different in so very profoundly many ways. So many subspecies with infinitely many different potential uses and talents. A nearly inexhaustible amount of resources here for research...

[The camera pauses as Anima is now staring directly into it and beyond it. It makes a few cries, then passes through the camera and begins to do...something. Immediately the camera shifts wildly in various directions and Agnus makes a very obvious noise of irritation.]

Anima. Anima! Return that at once, you m-m-m-miserable phantom! Anima! I am p-p-perfectly aware of where I need to be.

[Cut to Agnus' face, sans monocle, noticeably irritated. Anima hovers around him enthusiastically.]

It was my assumption that these strange c-creatures would prove vastly less unwieldy to a keen wit and immovable will. They most certainly do not. [He reaches out and snatches the monocle back up from the creature when it is unexpected, then places it back on his face calmly.]

If any members of the O-order of t-t-the Sword are present on this band, I advise you to contact me immediately. Chief Alchemist Agnus, reporting. Awaiting c-c-c-contact, over and out. [The broadcast cuts out, but the link is left open for contact.]

(Oh god, he's here now? This was too good to pass up, so in his hammiest voice...)

You'll find that these creatures are unlike any demon you've summoned. Ghosts, bugs, dragons, things not from the pits of hell...were they true demons, they would've also taken your head.

...No!

[Agnus is visibly shocked, he fumbles with the camera momentarily while hyperventilating. Hearing the voice of one's killer does this, apparently.]

[Eventually he stops, holds the camera straight up to his face again and scowls. Not just any scowl, but a Shakespearean expression of disdain and bemusement.] Well, now. It was my assumption that this new world might prove something of a reprieve; a boon, even. A second chance to perfect my research by examining a similar though profoundly different power so that I might solve that fundamental error I was posited.

[He grits his teeth momentarily, but continues.]

Dante, son of Sparda. For what purpose do you stand there, opposite of me by this contraption, and pose mockery to my research once more? What force moves you to this strange place as it has moved me, and how many others from our world are present here? I charge you, demon; hero, speak. Answer.

[Alchemist? No, but it doesn't sound like you're from Amestris... He's never heard of this "Order of the Sword" but perhaps this is something that existed in the other version...?]

You must be new here.

[Archer sounds amused when he responds though!]

These "creatures" are called Pokémon. They can be very useful if raised correctly. Unfortunately, those of us who were pulled here are stuck here.

[Finally! Someone who sounds intelligent and worthy of his time. Agnus shuffles for a few moments with the PokéGear, but returns with an intrigued tone.]

How c-c-curious. Yes, I have only just arrived here. I am told this p-p-place is called Goldenrod City. There are many things here I do not entirely understand, and many impossibly irritating unknowns I will not t-t-t-t-t-t...tolerate.

[Anima cries again.]

Pokémon...such profound things. So many uses, so much to be known... So much possibility. I studied something similar in my world. This will prove an immensely enjoyable task.

Chief Alchemist? That sounds like an impresssive title. Unfortunately, it's most likely meaninglessss here.

[Says the guy whose last name is Commander.]

[Goldenrod...? Well then, that's interesting, isn't it? Archer switches the feed over to video and locks it, smirking.]

So I take it you're a member of Team Rocket, then? You should be careful - only those who are a member of this organization show up in Goldenrod. There are people out there who would assume you're terrible just because you started here.

[Now then, if you're interested in studying Pokémon...]

Team Rocket has several labs; we've been researching Pokémon for quite some time and there are several interesting things the labs are up to. I suggest visiting them. Ask for Gorthan; he seems to be in charge.

(Oh, how great a laugh this would've normally brought about, but Shakespearean serious business was serious.)

'Tis a force that remains a mystery to all who brave the ominous lands, known...formally...as Johto!

(And a dramatic fist pump.)

The only reprieve, that you will receive, is clearing your mind of that which you were deceived. Should you not grasp what makes a human powerful, you will never learn that which powers the fauna of Johto, your future and eternal companions, those which are only known...as pokemon!

(And he points the camera over at his Scizor, who raises a pincer over his head while outspreading his wings.)

"SCIZOOOOR!"

[There is a strange gleam in Agnus' monocle for a moment, and Anima floats idly in the space between the camera and his face at the sound of another pokémon coming through the gear. Agnus grins, but looks off thoughtfully for a few moments.]

Humans... Indeed, it came to my...attentions quickly that I have been miserably cast back into this frail, pathetic shell. And yet, you, a demon of insurmountable power no less would tell me that it was my error to cast that aside. How pregnant, how profound your reply now seems. Trapped as I am again in this...thing called humanity. Foolish, stubborn, miserable nature that I am once more possessed of...

[A poignant pause that stretches out for several moments, punctuated by the call of Anima. She looks irritable and is not fond of this ham-ery. Agnus grins wide and malevolently and breaks the silence once more.]

Very well, then. With these creatures in tow, I will find that which I had so sorely missed before. I will discover now what was unknown to me in that life.

[Agnus flings a hand up in a dramatic pose and glares down at the camera.]

Hear me! Bear witness, son of Sparda. I will find that error. I will correct the mistakes. And, then, once I know the true form of power that binds us both I will surpass even you. Dante, when that day comes. Vengeance with impunity will. Be. Mine!

[And Agnus adjusts his monocle as he glances at his new 'friend.']

I am. Thank you for the information, then. I will seek that him out promptly, I have a very strong feeling my research into demonic power could prove to be a boon for this organization's purposes. If anything, I can research even more weaponizations for these wondrous creatures power.

[Agnus grins psychotically for a few moments as he considers the infinite potential uses he has seen in only a few brief hours of watching pokémon go about.]

It's good to find such helpful, informative comrades even here in this strange place....

Likely, but not certainly. Titles are merely that, t-t-t-titles. A name, and that which can be known by one can be by any other.

[He snorts.]

Weaponizations, you say?

[Archer's smirk widens. He's not particularly good at reading people, but he does understand that this man is about as innocent as Archer himself is.]

Of course. Members of Team Rocket should stick together. Our organization has been the target of several "do-gooders" lately. Admittedly, we've been up to some particularly cruel things - attacking innocents, stealing Pokémon and the like - but we need to stick together now.

My name is Colonel Frank Archer, of the Amestrian military. From the sound of it, you're not from my world. There are many of us from different worlds here. No one has figured out how this happens, but as it stands, we're here now.

I'd sssay certainly. The organization you belong to, if it is an organization, is likely not here in any way, sssshape, or form. Furthermore, thissss alchemy business, from what I understand, does not work here.

[Or well, not so much what he understands as what he's been told by others from worlds where alchemy exists.]

Though there are some that have meaning here. I'll elaborate if you answer a sssimple question. From where are you conducting your resssearch on these creatures?

[It's just a hunch, but from what he's seen, researches normally appear in Goldenrod.]

Oh, yes. My research has long dwelled on how best to use whatever resources I can...summon for the purposes of the Order. Specifically, the creation of demonic weapons and arms for the use of the Order's military forces. [His grin widens in an entirely obvious way. Someone is quite proud of his job, indeed.]

Colonel Archer, then. Agnus is fine, my title will have little use here I think. Petty things like theft do not interest me, though, my goals are much more...lofty.

[A bemused sigh.]

Goldenrod City, at present. How long I intend to remain here is a matter out of my hands, it seems.

[An irritable grunt.]

I have yet to put effort into summoning any demons here, but I have a strong suspicion that it fail entirely.

I'm not certain how much use that will be here. If you can find some way to incorporate that knowledge into altering the Pokémon somehow... well, I'd certainly be interested.

[Archer tilts his head a bit at that. He understands. Oh boy does he understand.]

Of course. Hopefully you'll be able to return home as soon as possible. For the time being, I suggest raising the Pokémon you were given. It will be very useful here. Those with strong Pokémon have power here, after all.

I thought as much. In that case-

[Give him a second to get the video going. There's a man in full Rocket uniform inside a cave. His face obscured by a metal plate that is definitely not part of the standard uniform.]

I am Cobra Commander! Welcome to Team Rocket! And yesss, unless you consider Pokemon to be demons, I wouldn't expect to have much luck with that.

[Huh. Kimblee didn't mention anything about demons. There's something to ask about.]

Oh, no no no. I can't return any time soon. There is too much I must study, so much I must know.

[Agnus' expression darkens.]

It is to my great irritation that I have found p-p-p-previous acquaintances here in this world. Acquaintances to which I owe a debt of vengeance. It will be great pleasure to solve a long-standing query of mine here in this world with the resources I will soon possess and take my solemn revenge against the slights I have suffered by their hand.

[Cut to Agnus' feed, him standing in full Rocket gear in the Goldenrod Facility. Plus a monocle, because cool.]

Agnus. Pleased to make your acquaintance, Commander.

[He bows dramatically, and raises his head with a smirk.]

They are much different from demons, and the powers they possess are entirely unlike demonic power as I have studied it. However, they are so very similar in so many ways. I am beside myself with curiosity and wonder.

[A brief pause, he recalls something from earlier on.]

Commander, do you know the location of man named 'Gorthan?'

[Hmm. Between the research and the monocle, he's almost reminded of someone from his world.]

I believe Gorthan is in Celadon City. If no one has told you, we are currently in the middle of an operation. I'm afraid things outssside the base are a bit messy at the moment.

Now if you don't mind, I have a question of my own. You ssseem to be a researcher of some sort. What areas of study do you specialize in? I like to keep track of what we have.

Ah, indeed?

[Revenge is certainly an excellent reason to stay.]

In that case, Team Rocket would certainly be the best place for you. Should you need any help with that, we can certainly provide assistance.

You have my most sincere thanks. I will begin my search for Gorthan immediately.

[Oh hello, fancy seeing you here. It takes her a little while to decide what she's going to do with this new development, and then decides to see if she can do what she does best.
