The Preamble Becons| Scene One: Act One

[The camera opens to some slight shifting as it traces the path of the ethereal being it has been pointed at, there is a slight bit of delay and the furious sound of a pen on paper in the very near background. Anima, a Misdreavous, is eagerly flitting about somewhere in Goldenrod while a certain mad scientist is taking notes.]

...not entirely unlike their p-p-power, however so very different in so very profoundly many ways. So many subspecies with infinitely many different potential uses and talents. A nearly inexhaustible amount of resources here for research...

[The camera pauses as Anima is now staring directly into it and beyond it. It makes a few cries, then passes through the camera and begins to do...something. Immediately the camera shifts wildly in various directions and Agnus makes a very obvious noise of irritation.]

Anima. Anima! Return that at once, you m-m-m-miserable phantom! Anima! I am p-p-perfectly aware of where I need to be.

[Cut to Agnus' face, sans monocle, noticeably irritated. Anima hovers around him enthusiastically.]

It was my assumption that these strange c-creatures would prove vastly less unwieldy to a keen wit and immovable will. They most certainly do not. [He reaches out and snatches the monocle back up from the creature when it is unexpected, then places it back on his face calmly.]

If any members of the O-order of t-t-the Sword are present on this band, I advise you to contact me immediately. Chief Alchemist Agnus, reporting. Awaiting c-c-c-contact, over and out. [The broadcast cuts out, but the link is left open for contact.]

Research and development of weapons and armor, summoning and invocation of demonic power, and the study and application of demonic power... As it stands, I have a most profound feeling that my areas of expertise will translate wonderfully into the use of pokemon as weapons.

[He grins malevolently as a strangely fitting light shines across his monocle.]

[Oh, he is CONFUSED.]

G-g-g-Gloria? You, too? What a small world.

Oh yesss, they make such wonderful tools of war.

[Okay, now that whole evil monocle shine is definitely giving him flashbacks to his world. Not necessarily good ones, but hey, more scientists are always a plus as far as he's concerned.]

They explode, poison, fire lasers, and sssso many other things. I imagine you'll have no shortage of things to weaponize.

It is, though maybe a little bigger than you would first imagine. Apparently there is another land beyond this one with more of these strange creatures to encounter.

[She senses your confusing and she relishes it]

More, you say? Marvelous. I simply must go and study them all, then.

[A pause.]

Gloria. I have encountered Dante. Do you have a fix on his location at the current t-t-t-time?

[He mutters with an infinitely amused grin.]

[Then clears his throat and adjusts his monocle.]

I will request a meeting with Gorthan and clearance to head for Celadon immediately, then. If you please, Commander, would you send in word ahead that my talents may come in handy? Any accreditation I can accumulate would be appreciated.

One last favor, if you please. Colonel, could you perhaps send a word in advance to Gorthan? Any sort of accreditation I can accumulate before I place in the requests for transfer or a meeting in the current environment would be of great aid. I would most appreciate it.

Of course. I'll put in a good word for you. Let him know just what you've studied in your world; Gorthan will appreciate that, I'm sure.

(And a triumphant laugh as he points the camera back at himself.)

To surpass me, you say? Me, who has done away with armies of demons and even your blind eyes? Your claim does nothing more than make me laugh.

But I suggest...(Pausing.)

...that if you truly plan to take on the great mystery which has deceived you and many before you, the mystery that continues to loom over your head and beyond your reach, that you climb on what your hands can grasp; not to trample over them, but to ascend with their assistance.

(And in a darker tone, pointing a finger at the camera.)

You have many a steps to climb before the answer is yours to claim, for to do away with your doubt...you must do away with your wrongs.

Clearance granted, but getting there may be easier said than done. Getting to Celadon requires getting past the chaos in the ssstreets, boarding the train, and then navigating from Saffron to Celadon. Both of which are also under attack by the mutant trash Pokemon.

I'll ssend advance notice if I hear from him, but you may also want to keep an eye on the network. Gorthan is hard to miss. He's rather...theatrical.

[That's probably the best way to put it.]

[Considering she's sitting four feet away from the devil in question and watching him ham it up with him? Oh yes. Definitely got a fix on that location.]

Oh yes. I'm still following my orders from His Excellency. There's no need to be complacent after all, I have him under observation.

[...look at that ham go. He's such a manchild. Kind of.]

Excellent. Now, then. Gloria, please do me a small f-f-favor. In the course of continuing your mission, please report Dante's location and movements to me periodically. As it stands there are a few small m-m-m-m-m-m-...matters to which I must attend with him.

[He clears his throat.]

I would be extremely grateful for your assistance.

[Agnus pauses to think over what he is being told, what it -implies-, and what is actually being carried over.]

...We will see, demon. But, know this: I have not climbed a mountain of corpses, sacrificed countless lives, and offered up innumerable souls to be told that power which I was able to wield is invalid. A hero is nothing without a villan. Without angels or demons humans would know neither moral boundaries nor the meaning of 'good' and 'evil.' I will continue down the path I have chosen, Dante. If, at its end, I can see no answer to the eternal question then and only then will I turn from it.

[She takes a split second to raise an eyebrow at that, glance at Dante, then return her attention to the Pokégear.]

Matters? What matters would those be?

[He scoffs at her question, honestly surprised by her gall.]

Matters which d-d-don't concern you. If you absolutely must know, a number of components for my research centered on him. Your apprehension of the d-d-d-d-d-d...demon was t-t-t-tantamount to the completion of my investigations.

[There is a pause, he considers speaking further but pushes the matter aside.]

All that is required of you is to keep me informed.

[Ah, of course. And then he had run into Dante himself and been shot in the head, it's all coming back to her now. She could pour salt in the wounds, but considering that he's just showed up and it might prove more expeditious to keep him sweet to keep tabs on him, she'll resist temptation.]

I merely ask out of curiosity; we're no longer in Fortuna. Your research is a world away, I wonder how you intend to carry out further inquiries when you're at a disadvantage.

The answers I seek are those I had dedicated my life to, answers which I will continue to seek even now. As for the nature of my research...it has come to my attention that it could prove quite p-p-profitable in this world as well. Certain groups have expressed an interest in my specializations, I am currently making p-preparations to leave Goldenrod City for Celadon to find employment and opportunities to apply new fields to my research.

[A few shuffling noises as he gathers his things, at this point he has most of what he was given by the rocket staff under Cobra Commander to assist his trip.]

I will be leaving within the next few hours. I must establish contact with a few people before I make my way, however. If you are near or within Goldenrod, it would be nice to meet and discuss a few things in the meantime.

... You got a glitch in your vocals or somethin'?

[Have an irritable scowl that begs disdain for your very existence.]

I beg your pardon?

What? It was an honest question.

...You were serious?

[He pauses and adjusts his monocle before staring flatly at the other male.]

My 'vocals' function p-p-p-p-p...perfectly.

[FUCKING HELL.]

[ He stares flatly back ] Are you sure? I mean, is that how they've always worked?

I've known a few guys who've caught lasers with their necks, and their vocals never did function right after that.

[Of all the douchebags that had to come back to life.]
