Scene Two: Act One [Video/Action]

[The feed opens up to Agnus, surrounded by books and papers sitting at his nifty-looking desk ~~in the Goldenrod Rocket Labs building~~ in an office. He is currently shuffling through pages in what appears to be a...manual of gems and precious metals? Seems that he just sat the gear down and forgot about it, but then he turns to look at the camera and shifts his monocle.]

Would anyone happen to know a few decent training spots around the Goldenrod area? I've come into the possession of several new pokemon from eggs that lack abilities. I would like to get my team up to snuff. Any assistance would be appreciated.

[He quietly shuts the feed off for the time being, then goes back to his research.]

((Rockets of the Goldenrod labs are free to approach him, he's just sitting around doing research ATM! o/))

[Today is the first day that Dist has had the opportunity to tour the science labs that Team Rocket boasted so much about. Arms crossed behind his back, he carefully examines the tables along with their contents, to see what his fellow members are working on. To his surprise, much of it is actually quite interesting. He didn't expect these "Pokemon" to be so much unlike the creatures from his own world. Perhaps they have some use after all...

Eventually, he finds himself in Agnus's little corner of the lab. He's the first member Dist has actually come across so far.

Judgmental goggles are on as he examines the man's table contents. Metals, hmm?]

Ah, good evening.

[ Oh, it's that guy who was freaking out about his missing notes the other day. He seems calmer now, which is... good. In retrospect, she thinks he's probably new, freaking out as badly as he did following the three day ~~dream~~ memory gap that affected everyone, so she won't hold it against him. She'll lean back in her chair and pause. Time to test the waters. ]

Route 34 is your best bet. There's plenty of tall grass there and the trainers along the way will be more than happy to challenge you to a battle. There are also trainers are Route 35, though it's a bit of a walk to find any tall grass. The National Park is also a good training spot, but it's a day or two out from Goldenrod.

[Agnus looks over at the feed again and...oh, it's a woman in a sharp-looking suit. My, isn't she professional. Helpful advise, too, how lovely. First impressions? Someone worth maybe a passing interest in until proven either useless or useful.]

I see, well...considering they are all newly hatched I definitely suspect my options are limited to the tall grass until I can build them up and get them to a level of competence.

There are also TMs being sold at the stores here, so I suppose I might want to go and find them fitting ones to give them a move or two they can use...

[He pauses and thinks for a few minutes, honestly looking like someone who has way too much floating around in his head at the moment. Someone is HEAVILY involved in his research.]

[Agnus quickly looks up at the sound of the voice, then glances curiously at the...good lord, are those feathers? Is his hair pink? ...is that lipstick? Numerous other quick questions are scattered about in his mind, but quietly get pushed aside as his glance turns to a respectful nod. He only lets his eyes linger long enough to get familiar, then turns back to his research.]

Good evening to you, as well. I don't think I've seen you around here before...

[He thinks back on that for a few moments to be sure...nope, at least not in Gorthan's lab. Agnus looks back up again and offers the male a polite smile, no sense not being sociable to new coworkers, then.]

I am Agnus, and it is a pleasure to meet you.

[[Kato has been wandering through the labs, gathering his thoughts, when he walks past Agnus' office and notices his odd choice of reading material. He can't resist popping his head in; this could potentially be interesting.]]

Going gold digging?

[Agnus quickly looks up at the other male, somewhat familiar with the voice from much earlier. Wasn't that voice the person from a few weeks ago?]

Hmm? Oh, no. No, looking through these metals and gemstones for an experiment involving psychics.

[He gives the man an analytic glance and narrows his eyes for a second.]

I...think I remember your voice. Have we spoken before?

If you have a rod, you could fish, but I expect it's easier to wander through the tall grass until you encounter something myself. Unless you're that starved for variety, of course, but I doubt you get too much unless you're actually fishing the ocean.

[ And she's pausing, the smile rising upon her face falling as she notices how engrossed he seems in... something that is not this conversation. ]

TMs are a good idea. Some are a bit pricy, though. Just make sure your Pokémon can use it before you buy it and... are you okay, sir?

Hmm?

[He blinks, then looks back at her and waves a hand.]

Yes, yes. Quite fine. Merely thinking.

Continue, please.

[ Wow, rude, but okay. She'll continue. ]

That's really about all the options you have outside of asking if someone they network if anyone in the Goldenrod area would be up for battling with you unless... well, how far are you willing to travel?

[Good question, actually. Now he's thinking about it aaaaand...]

Well, I suppose distance isn't really that much of an issue. My employers would likely approve most travel and provide expenses, thus I imagine I could travel to where I need to train them.

Oh, where are my manners today? Please, pardon me. Thank you for the information, and please excuse my absentmindedness.

[ Better, except... his employers are likely to approval his travel and provide expenses? She hasn't heard of a job like that in Johto and she's pretty sure she would have by now. Color her a tad suspicious, not that she's showing it on her face. No, she offers a smile instead. ]

It's alright. It sounds like your employers are quite generous. If that's the case, you might look into traveling to Olivine or maybe as even Ecrutek. There's a good bit of tall grass around both and they've got some decent sights on top of being smaller cities. Olivine also has an ocean if you'd like to try your hand at fishing there.

Well...I work with a research company doing studies on pokémon species. To say that training them is a part of my work wouldn't be stretching the truth too much. That said, I find myself a bit more interested in the possibility of watching them grow rather than sightseeing.

Call me dedicated, or strange. Whichever you should prefer.

I see. I wasn't aware there were any companies researching Pokémon actively in Johto, but I suppose that's not to much of a surprise.

[ And she'll be looking into that because she is curious. If he's telling the truth, and she's still a bit skeptical because she's fairly sure she would've heard about it by now, there's a good chance a company like that has a need for bodyguards and guarding company personnel beats working at the PokéMart any day. ]

Dedicated has a nice ring to it. You might try the National Park then. It's got the biggest stretch of wild grass. I'd start off on Route 34 or 35 until your Pokemon are in the teens, however.

Dist simply raises an eyebrow when the man stares at him. Well, this guy seems polite enough. He'll pass for now.

He nods in response to Agnus's greeting.]

Dist the Rose. A pleasure indeed. [It sounds a little forced, but he wants to stay on good terms with everyone. Team Rocket is his only source of info right now, after all.] And yes, I am a new arrival to this...world of Pokemon, as residents seem to call it.

I found that simply wandering outside of town is the best training when I was in Goldenrod~

[Agnus quietly shuffles through a few pages of notes, removes a pen from his coat pocket, and begins to scribble further on them.]

Oh, before I forget. As I imagine you may be working here, it should be said that this lab is under the authority of the Scientist, Gorthan. I am merely one of the researchers working under him.

Indeed. I do enjoy that my research can yet continue even now. It's quite a joy of mine.

Nothing particularly ground-breaking; I just noticed you reading that book and was curious as to what you intended to use the information for. I'm yet to experiment with Psychics myself; not really my field, you see, but I must admit that it intrigues me, as I train a Psychic-type.

That and I always have an interest in meeting my fellow scientists. It's a pleasure, Agnus.

Allow me to explain, then, as it would be my pleasure. You see, in my previous line of work I discovered a sort of resonance between demonic power and certain metals and gemstones. Just as well, much of my research into demons had trappings in mythology and legend, which speaks quite far of the powers of these same certain things.

[He motions over the a stack of papers, then slowly fans them out for the other Doctor's consumption of information. Short essays on the proposed effects of Moonstones, some hypothetical statements about Mt. Moon, a few interesting thoughts on trying to find a mechanical way to enhance psychic power. Really, Agnus has quite plotted out his research track.]

Of course, I fully well anticipate having to find creative and innovative means to enhance psychic power. However, I should say that I already have numerous potential methods in mind. The process merely becomes one of elimination, weeding out the workable ideas from the failures.

Have you made any... um... Ah, breakthroughs?

...demons, you say?

[[Well. Kato certainly wasn't expecting that.]]

I can't say I've had much experience in that area, but it certainly sounds....fascinating.

[[And it does! In a...rather morbid sort of way.]]

[Since Dist really doesn't like the idea of having another scientist above him, this Gorthan guy better be really damn good at what he does. But he's already curious about these "Pokemon types." He's briefly read up on them, and some sound actually useful. And these scientists are working on enhancing their abilities further? It's something he can get behind.

He shifts his weight to his other side, and brings his hands in front to rub them. A small smile spreads across his lips. Oh Agnus, why would you give Dist the opportunity to be self-indulgent?]

As for my name, it is my title in the military. All god-generals have titles, and mine reflects my elegance and beauty. [He runs a hand along one of the feathered petals on his collar.] But all roses have thorns, of course. A perfect combination of beauty and danger.

A few, I think. The only major area of concern is finding materials that react to psychic power. Once I can isolate natural or, in the event of such, synthetic materials that are reactive I can begin the process of experimentation.

[He grins a little at the interest in demonology.]

Demonology is actually not entirely unlike the study of pokemon. In fact, I was quite surprised when I began working. The similarities are remarkable.

He is...a respectable man. Brilliant, deep, a man who questions everything. I hold him in very high regard, honestly...

[Was that said a bit...dreamily? Perhaps, but if Dist will hopefully see why in due time. Agnus' respect and admiration is infinitely transparent, but he feels it is undoubtedly well deserved.]

Beauty and danger, is it? Hmm...A poetic statement, if maudlin. I confess, I'm quite curious then. What are your fields of study? What is it that you plan to bring forth to this organization?

...ah, would you mind if I call you Dist? It pains me to say it, but titles quickly become useless here until one shows ones worth and mettle... Please, take no offense to my say, however. I mean nothing of it, rather that I have noted such.

You could say that, I suppose. I've been researching a great number of things. This interest in gemology is but a function of one such study.

Ah, you must pardon me however. The specifics of my research are confidential information.

[Respectable, hm? Dist will be the judge of that, in due time.

There's a twitch of mild irritation on Dist's face at that last bit. If he wasn't trying to keep on good terms here, he'd be lashing out at such a request, especially for a reason like that. No one tries to strip away Dist the Rose's title just because he's in another world! But alas. He simply sighs.]

If you absolutely must, I suppose I can allow it.

[Moving on...expertise, yes.] I specialize in fonon technology. Fonons are the basic particles of matter in my world, and are critical for scientific and technological research. My specific field is robotics and machinery. [Among other things that he feels the need to omit. He is not in the mood to discuss his private project right now.]

Ah. No, no. If you very much prefer it, then I will keep in mind your formal title.

[Oh, great. An ego to match his flaunty, gaudy fashion sense. Agnus begins to put to mind a list of Dist's qualities with sharp detail to his arrogance. Of course, genius does tend to inflate one's ego he supposes. Still...no points for personality here.]

Robotics? Ah, wonderful. I might want to have your assistance in some projects here, then. Some of my current research may require mechanical solutions.

[Granted, this comes with the hopeful assumption that his irritable reactions are merely well...reactions. Not indicative of his entire temperament.]

I see~ And my, don't worry. I'm sure that even if you could explain it to me, I doubt I would understand it...

[Agnus grins, then motions over to a collection of papers detailing his theories so far.]

My current project is to find the means to amplify the power of psychic energy through external devices. I'm researching gemstones and metals for materials that may have a reaction to energies produced by psychic-type moves.

[He motions off with a wave of his hand, and considers how much of the full scope to reveal.]]

This is just one of a number of projects I am currently doing research for, however...Well, let me just say I currently have a hand in several very big and quite profoundly ambitious productions.

[It's a lot to take in, considering how he only arrived in Johto very recently. Pokemon types are still something to be extensively researched, along with this psychic energy Agnus is going on about. Dist is sure that similar energies exist in his world, but under different names. Even then, they were quite rare.

Dist takes another look around the large lab room, recalling the various projects he saw on the other desks. Well, let's just say he'd would be lying if he said he wasn't a little excited about all of this.]

I must say, I find your project intriguing. Though it may be some time before I am able to fully aid you. I have to bring myself up to speed on Pokemon, so to speak.
